Connect an AI agent

Use Nuvio from ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Grok Bot or any agent that supports MCP. Set-up steps, what an agent can do, and how your data is handled.

View as Markdown

Nuvio works inside the AI agents you already use. Ask ChatGPT, Claude or Grok Bot about your cash, invoices and bills, or have it record an expense or a payment for you, without opening Nuvio.

The agent works as you. It has your role’s rights, in the one company you choose when you connect it, and it asks you before it changes anything.

  • You need a Nuvio account and access to the company you want to connect.
  • Every agent uses the same address, Nuvio’s MCP server:
https://mcp.nuvio.io/mcp

Each agent takes about a minute to set up and finishes the same way: Nuvio opens in your browser, you sign in, choose the company and approve.

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings › Plugins and switch to the MCPs tab.
  2. Choose Add, then connect to a custom MCP.
  3. Enter nuvio as the Name, set Type to Streamable HTTP and paste the server URL into URL. Leave Bearer token env var and the headers empty, then choose Save.
  4. nuvio now shows in the Servers list. Choose Authenticate next to it. ChatGPT opens Nuvio: sign in, choose the company and approve.
  1. In Claude on the web or desktop, open Customize › Connectors.
  2. Choose Add custom connector. Name it Nuvio, paste the server URL and choose Add. Leave the advanced settings empty.
  3. Choose Connect next to Nuvio. Sign in, choose the company and approve.
  4. Nuvio now works in every chat, and in Claude’s mobile apps too. To turn it off for one chat, use + › Connectors.
  1. Run this once in your terminal. It adds Nuvio for every project:

    Terminal window
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user nuvio https://mcp.nuvio.io/mcp
  2. In Claude Code, run /mcp, choose nuvio, then Authenticate.

  3. Your browser opens Nuvio. Sign in, choose the company and approve, then go back to the terminal.

  1. Start a new conversation with Grok Bot.

  2. Send this message as it is:

    /add-connector https://mcp.nuvio.io/mcp
  3. Confirm the connector when Grok Bot asks. It opens Nuvio: sign in, choose the company and approve.

Any agent that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP with OAuth sign-in works the same way. Add the server URL, then sign in, choose the company and approve when the agent opens Nuvio.

Once connected, ask in your own words. For example:

  • “How much do customers owe us, and which invoices are overdue?”
  • “Which supplier bills are due this week, and what’s the total?”
  • “How many months of cash runway do we have at our current burn?”
  • “Add an expense from Acme Supplies for 3 hours of consulting at $120 an hour, dated today.”
  • “Show last week’s unmatched bank transactions and match them to the right invoices.”
  • “Compare this quarter’s income and expenses with the same quarter last year.”

Always inside the company you chose, and never past your role.

It can

  • Read incomes and expenses, with their lines, taxes and payments.
  • See balances and cash: receivables, payables, cash position, bank transactions, runway and performance.
  • Look up customers, suppliers, products, projects and tags.
  • Create and change incomes, expenses, customers, suppliers, products, projects and tags.
  • Record payments: add a payment to an income or expense, and match bank transactions to them.

It can’t

  • Delete anything. No income, expense or contact is ever removed.
  • Move money. No bank payments or transfers, ever: a payment the agent records is an entry in your books for money that has already moved.
  • Change company settings, users or billing.
  • Go past your role. It has exactly your rights, never more.

Every action is checked against your role and your company’s plan at the moment it runs, just as in the app:

  • Viewer can read only.
  • Only Data Entry sees and changes only their own records, and can’t use the banking and payment tools.
  • A tool for a feature your company’s plan doesn’t include is refused, as the matching page in the app would be.

If you leave a company or your role changes, the agent’s next request follows the change.

Tools that change data are marked that way, so your agent asks you before running them (each agent shows this its own way). Check the values it shows you before you approve. If the same change is sent twice within two minutes, Nuvio applies it once.

Reading (21):

Tool What it does
GetIncomes, GetIncome Invoices and income: totals, lists and one document’s details
GetExpenses, GetExpense Bills and expenses: totals, lists and one document’s details
GetOpenReceivables What customers still owe, by due date
GetOpenPayables What you still owe suppliers, by due date
GetCashPosition Cash across your bank and cash accounts
GetCashRunway Runway from your recent net burn
GetFinancialPerformance Income, expenses and net contribution for a period, with comparisons
GetTransactions Bank transactions
GetUnmatchedTransactions Bank transactions not yet matched to incomes or expenses
GetTransactionLinks What one bank transaction is matched to
GetBankAccounts Accounts a payment can be recorded on
GetPaymentCandidates Bank transactions a document could be matched to
GetCustomers, GetSuppliers Customers and suppliers, with their totals
GetProducts, GetProjects, GetTags Products and services, projects and tags
GetCurrencies, GetTaxes Currencies and tax rates, for new records

Changing data (16):

Tool What it does
CreateIncome, UpdateIncome Create or change an income (an invoice), with its lines
CreateExpense, UpdateExpense Create or change an expense (a bill or receipt), with its lines
CreateCustomer, UpdateCustomer Create or change a customer
CreateSupplier, UpdateSupplier Create or change a supplier
CreateProduct, UpdateProduct Create or change a product or service
CreateProject, UpdateProject Create or change a project
CreateTag, UpdateTag Create or change a tag
AddPayment Record a payment on an income or expense
ReconcilePayment Set which incomes and expenses a bank transaction pays

Nuvio works out every total and tax amount from the lines; an agent never sets them.

In Nuvio, open Settings › Profile › AI agents. Under Connected agents, choose Disconnect next to the agent. It loses access to that company straight away: its next request is refused. To use it again, connect it again.

The same page lists every agent you’ve connected, in every company you belong to, with when each was connected and last used.

  • You sign in on Nuvio’s own page. The agent never sees your password. It gets a short-lived access key for one company, which you can take back at any time.
  • Nuvio sees only what the agent sends to a tool. It never reads your conversation, the agent’s memory or your files in the agent.
  • What Nuvio records about each call: the tool, which agent called it, the names of the fields it sent (not their values), a one-way fingerprint of the values that stops an accidental repeat, whether it worked and how long it took. These records are kept for 90 days, then deleted. Nuvio’s product analytics receives the same facts, again without values.
  • What the agent keeps (your chats, and the answers Nuvio returns to it) is up to the agent’s provider and its privacy policy.

Read Nuvio’s privacy policy for how Nuvio handles your data.

  • The agent asks you to sign in again. The agent was disconnected, or hasn’t been used for a long time. Sign in, choose the company and approve again.
  • “No longer a member of the company.” You were removed from that company. Connect the agent to a company you belong to.
  • A change “took too long”. It may still have gone through. Ask the agent to look the record up before trying again.
  • You can’t add a custom connector or MCP. On business plans of ChatGPT, Claude and Grok, an admin may need to allow it first.
